installation? – LOOK, BUT…
LOOK, BUT DO NOT TOUCH, a non-installation:
LOOK, BUT DO NOT TOUCH (a 24-hour non-installation); Summer 2003; UC Davis (grad studio, lower level, back left); all materials and artworks belonging to Jeff Dodson.
His first studio there was dank – most time he spent condensing and rearranging his stuff. Half way through he switched studios. It was a chance to use all of his materials and artworks as his medium. In the “new” empty studio he “installed” all of his stuff then put a sign on the door “LOOK, BUT DO NOT TOUCH” and left, with the door unlocked, for 24 hours. There was no evidence that anyone noticed.
The following year (while at UC Davis) he further explored non-installation and non-performance – he is still doing that – his art is an ongoing non-installation/non-performance.
LOOK, BUT DO NOT TOUCH (a clockwise 360-degree view):
He viewed each of these pages as a distinct grouping – he made a photocopy of each page and drew marks on them – he fantasized that he had gained control of all of his stuff…
Here is the first drawing (compare to image at top of page):
